Hi {{ first_name | }}
I just made you look at a jack-o-lantern emoji, and girl⊠Iâm sorry to break it to you, but Fall is coming whether weâre ready or not.
And listenâit may only be August right now, but I really wish I had been thinking ahead last year.
Because last year, I learned two very important lessons during the same week:
Never volunteer as âHead of Airport Logisticsâ for your team.
Never leave your Halloween costume until the last minute.
I was traveling out of city to be a sponsor at a big conference, while also trying to play âairport dispatcherâ for my team landing from three different cities at three completely different times.
At first I thought, âHow hard could it be to coordinate rides from the airport?â (Cue ominous music.)
Flight A landed early. Flight B was delayed. Flight C got stuck in Denver. Meanwhile, I was buried in a group text thread that read like a soap opera: âIâm outside Door 4!â âNo, other Door 4!â âWait, where are you??â
Plus the chaos that was trying to arrange multiple Ubers for everyone at different times. Some rides I was able to book for some team members, while others used their own Ubers and then emailed me their receipts for reimbursement.
By the time I finally made it to the conference, I was frazzled, sweaty, and regretting every life choice that led me there.
But then I realized Iâd forgotten that it was Halloween. Almost everyone at the event was in costume. Except me, in my âstressed business travelerâ fit.
I mean, I could have told people I was Jan Levinson.

Sure, I was giving strong Jan Levinson energyâpolished blazer on the outside, absolute meltdown on the inside. But that wasnât the way I wanted to show up at this event.
While everyone else was rocking clever costumes at the eventâs after party, I was wishing I could at least borrow a set of cat ears.
That week taught me: winging it doesnât work. Not for costumes. Not for business travel.
By the end of that week, I promised myself: never again. No more juggling rides like a frazzled air traffic controller. No more showing up to conferences looking like I sprinted through three terminals.
So after all this, THIS YEAR we are doing it right, and just using Uber for Business. It takes all the âwhoâs landing when?â chaos out of the equation. My team just requests their ride, itâs all managed in one place, and I donât have to lose brain cells coordinating pickups in three different group texts. Plus streamlined expense reporting and automatic receipt uploads all done for me.
Which means this year Iâll actually have the bandwidth to plan a Halloween costume that isnât âcrazy woman in business casual.â
I also love that women can now (finally!) select female-only drivers. Peace. of. mind. Especially as a solo woman traveller.
